Introduction
Dream Boyd Theatre is a converted historic theatre at 30 W Broad Street in Downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. About 83% of our residents that use our community platform, Cobu, are active each month. Over the past 12 months, they have generated more than 460 comments, RSVPed for dozens of events, and kept six interest groups running. Here is what daily life at our community actually looks like, based on real resident activity.
Life Inside Dream Boyd Theatre: What Residents Actually Do Here
Our community feed is one of those places where you never know what will pop up next. One week someone is offering plant propagations for a couple of dollars. The next, a resident is looking for a weekend pet sitter for their mini dachshund puppy. Then someone shares details about a photography pop-up happening in the building. The marketplace logged 88 comments this past year, with residents posting everything from island stools and desk chairs to a free ultrawide monitor and a bulk art supplies sale.
The mix of people shows up in the conversations. A resident who arrived from France for a one-year job posted looking to meet people her age and found the community responsive. Snow days turn into group check-ins on the feed. Girl Scout cookie orders get passed around. Neighbors help each other find things, fix things, and navigate a new city.
The Events and Social Scene
We put together roughly 67 events this past year. Our signature program is FitLife Wednesdays, a weekly wellness club run in partnership with Ignite5 that gives residents a consistent anchor in their week.
The seasonal events are where things get creative. Bunnies on Parade was a multi-day scavenger hunt that spanned the entire building, with residents following clues through hallways and common areas. Red Thread Week was a celebration of love and kindness featuring a Love Tree installation, swag bags, and partnerships with The Melting Pot and Nick's on Main. Build a Bouquet in Honor of Moms drew 11 RSVPs. The Boyd Bar-B-Cue brought 7 RSVPs to the Garden Patio. The Sound Bath event featured in our historic theatre space is something a standard amenity room cannot offer.
We also hosted a Shop Small Holiday Market, a Pi Day celebration timed to 3:14 on 3/14, a community game night featuring Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, and a Flat Stanley/Flat Annie storytelling project. During the Celtic Festival, our residents had a view of the parade right from the building on Broad Street.
What Residents Talk About Every Day
Our community feed has 366 comments this year and reads like a small-town bulletin board in the best way. In the same week you might see a conversation about the Celtic Festival, a post selling craft supplies, Girl Scout cookie orders, and photos from a recent building event. Our Apartment Life Coordinator keeps things active with creative teasers, follow-ups, and check-ins between events.
Residents are generous with dining recommendations on the feed. The Melting Pot and Nick's on Main have both partnered with us on events. Twisted Olive, Fiamma's Italian Grill, The Other Fish, The Alibi on 3rd Street, and The Brick (right across the street) all get regular mentions. Wishful Thinking does craft beer and Detroit-style pizza. Mediterranean Grill is next door on Broad. The Attic on Main is a thrift shopping favorite.
Interest Groups
We have six active groups. The Foodie Group leads with 34 members, followed by the Creativity group (21 members) and Tasting Club (20 members). The Dog Group has 10 members, Soccer and Association Football has its crew, and the Pinochle Enthusiasts round things out with a "Beginners Welcome!" note. For new residents, these groups are often an easy entry point into community life.
Is Dream Boyd Theatre Worth It?
Residents regularly organize events, share recommendations, and participate in weekly programming like FitLife Wednesdays. The events are creative and varied. The Downtown Bethlehem location gives you walkable access to restaurants, cultural events, and local shopping. And the historic theatre conversion gives this building a character that new construction does not have. Sound baths in the theatre, parades viewed from Broad Street, holiday markets in the building - these are experiences shaped by the building's history and its place in the neighborhood. For newcomers from another state, another country, or just another part of the Lehigh Valley, the active community feed and interest groups mean you do not have to start from scratch.
